Yards Brewing Company, Philadelphia: Twice Lotus for maximum flexibility

In 2017, the US-based Yards Brewing Company decided to work with Ziemann Holvrieka as part of the expansion and modernization of its brewing facility. The brewing technology specialist from Ludwigsburg was thus able to win another new customer in this segment with Philadelphia’s largest craft brewery.

The order placed with Ziemann Holvrieka comprised a complete brew line including malt handling. The brewhouse is designed for 12 brews per day. With an original gravity of 15.5 °Plato, the output is 120 hl per brew. The brewhouse is equipped with the innovative Colibri by Ziemann mashing system and two Lotus by Ziemann lauter tuns with diameters of 2,300 mm and 4,800 mm, respectively. This dual solution enables the Yards Brewing Company to effectively process brews with less than 25 hl. For this reason, Ziemann Holvrieka also installed an external boiler, which is ideally suited for small batches. Another special feature of the brewhouse is a fully automatic dosing system for cone hops. In addition, six 974-hl cylindroconical tanks including dome hoods and walkway system were part of the order. In addition to the delivery of the systems, Ziemann Holvrieka was responsible for the engineering, supervision of the erection and commissioning including training. In the first expansion stage, the new Yards brewery has an annual capacity of around 100,000 hl. It can be expanded at any time to around 235,000 hl per year.
