Zomin Brewery – Uzbekistan’s largest brewery in picturesque surroundings

Zomin Brewery, Uzbekistan’s largest brewery, was put into operation at the beginning of the year. With an annual capacity of 280,000 hectoliters, it is one of the largest breweries in the country. Zomin Brewery was equipped with innovative plant technology from Ziemann Holvrieka GmbH, which was also responsible for the turnkey handling of the process area.

Toshkentvino Kombinati, a renowned company with over 150 years of history, has further diversified with the construction of the brewery. Originally founded as a winery in Tashkent, the company now includes four wine and spirits factories, 12 wineries, a glassworks and a brewery. The decision to build a brewery was based on promising opportunities in the beer market.

Zomin – A site full of potential

The Zomin Brewery was deliberately built in the Zomin region in southeastern Uzbekistan. The Zomin National Park attracts tourists and locals alike with its unique flora and fauna. The picturesque landscape and the location on the tourist route between Samarkand and Tashkent make Zomin an ideal location for the brewery.

At Zomin, the company relies on innovative brewing technology. The goal was to produce a German-style all-malt beer without “high gravity”. To achieve this, state-of-the-art equipment such as a grist mill, a mash tun with stirrer, a lauter tun, an internal boiler, and a tried-and-tested whirlpool for hot trub separation were used. The brewhouse enables the production of up to 12 brews per day with a turnout volume of 110 hectoliters of hot wort.

Successful implementation despite logistical challenges

Construction of Zomin Brewery began in mid-2018 after extensive preparations. Due to the lack of seaports in Uzbekistan and neighboring countries, all components and materials had to be transported over land for nearly 3,000 kilometers. Despite these logistical challenges, the brewery was successfully commissioned on Dec. 15, 2018. Already on 27.12.2018, the official inauguration ceremony took place, during which the Zomin Pilsner was presented.
